Title: Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

I got the most amazing email from Pan Macmillan asking if I wanted to be on the blog tour for this book, and they said they’d send me an ARC and I basically screamed! This one of my most anticipated reads of the entire year so finally having it in my hands I could cry! I am so excited!!!

Synopsis: Zélie remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. When different clans ruled – Burners igniting flames, Tiders beckoning waves, and Zélie’s Reaper mother summoning forth souls. But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, anyone with powers was targeted and killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope. Only a few people remain with the power to use magic, and they must remain hidden. Zélie is one such person. Now she has a chance to bring back magic to her people and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must learn to harness her powers and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good. Danger lurks in Orïsha, where strange creatures prowl, and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. November Book Haul!

Hi everyone!

I’m so sorry this is so late! University has taken over my life and I’m behind on my posts! Anyway!

I actually managed to cut down the number of books I bought last month (it’s a miracle!), but there are just some books you HAVE to buy….right? I have discovered so many new authors and series last month, I can’t wait to read them all! Here they are:

Title:
Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill

I read NOS4R2 a couple months ago and since then I have discovered such a strong love for Joe Hill’s writing! I know this is one of his first books, so I definitely wanted to read where his writing began!

Synopsis: ‘Buy my stepfather’s ghost’ read the e-mail. So Jude did. He bought it, in the shape of the dead man’s suit, delivered in a heart-shaped box, because he wanted it: because his fans ate up that kind of story. It was perfect for his collection: the genuine skulls and the bones, the real honest-to-God snuff movie, the occult books and all the rest of the paraphanalia that goes along with his kind of hard/goth rock.
But the rest of his collection doesn’t make the house feel cold. The bones don’t make the dogs bark; the movie doesn’t make Jude feel as if he’s being watched. And none of the artefacts bring a vengeful old ghost with black scribbles over his eyes out of the shadows to chase Jude out of his home, and make him run for his life . . .

Title: Asylum by Madeleine Roux

I am in such a horror mood recently and I was recommended this by SO MANY people! I found it in my local bookshop and had to get it! It sounds so good, and the cover is AMAZING!

Synopsis: For sixteen-year-old Dan Crawford, the New Hampshire College Prep program is the chance of a lifetime. Except that when Dan arrives, he finds that the usual summer housing has been closed, forcing students to stay in the crumbling Brookline Dorm formerly a psychiatric hospital. As Dan and his new friends Abby and Jordan start exploring Brookline’s twisty halls and hidden basement, they uncover disturbing secrets about what really went on here . . . secrets that link Dan and his friends to the asylum’s dark past. Because Brookline was no ordinary mental hospital, and there are some secrets that refuse to stay buried.”

Title: Psycho by Robert Bloch

Again I love horror books, and well everyone knows the name Psycho! I found this and I wanted it so bad, I love classic stories and I can’t wait to read this!

Synopsis: She was a fugitive, lost in a storm. That was when she saw the sign: motel – vacancy. The sign was unlit, the motel dark. She switched off the engine, and sat thinking, alone and frightened. She had nobody. The stolen money wouldn’t help her, and Sam couldn’t either, because she had taken the wrong turning; she was on a strange road. There was nothing she could do now – she had made her grave and she’d have to lie in it. She froze. Where had that come from? Grave. It was bed, not grave. She shivered in the cold car, surrounded by shadows. Then, without a sound, a dark shape emerged from the blackness and the car door opened.

Title: Rivers of London by Ben Aaranovitch

A friend recommended this to me and can we just appreciate this cover??? It’s beautiful! I’ve actually read this and you can read what I thought in my November Wrap Up! It was so good and I loved it!

Synopsis: My name is Peter Grant and until January I was just probationary constable in that mighty army for justice known to all right-thinking people as the Metropolitan Police Service (and as the Filth to everybody else). My only concerns in life were how to avoid a transfer to the Case Progression Unit – we do paperwork so real coppers don’t have to – and finding a way to climb into the panties of the outrageously perky WPC Leslie May. Then one night, in pursuance of a murder inquiry, I tried to take a witness statement from someone who was dead but disturbingly voluable, and that brought me to the attention of Inspector Nightingale, the last wizard in England.

Now I’m a Detective Constable and a trainee wizard, the first apprentice in fifty years, and my world has become somewhat more complicated: nests of vampires in Purley, negotiating a truce between the warring god and goddess of the Thames, and digging up graves in Covent Garden … and there’s something festering at the heart of the city I love, a malicious vengeful spirit that takes ordinary Londoners and twists them into grotesque mannequins to act out its drama of violence and despair.

The spirit of riot and rebellion has awakened in the city, and it’s falling to me to bring order out of chaos – or die trying.

Title:
Moon Over Soho by Ben Aaranovitch

The second book in the series – naturally after finishing Rivers of London I had to buy this one! ITS AMAZING TOO – check it out on my November Wrap Up too!

Synopsis: My name is Peter Grant, and I’m a Detective Constable in that mighty army for justice known as the Metropolitan Police (a.k.a. the Filth). I’m also a trainee wizard, the first such apprentice in fifty years. Officially I belong to ESC9, Economic and Specialist Crime Unit 9, otherwise known as ‘The Folly’, also known as the unit that nice, well-brought-up coppers don’t talk about in polite company.

Title: Whispers Under Ground by Ben Aaranovitch

Yes okay okay I know I have a problem – but this series is so good! I can’t wait to read this book!

Synopsis: In Tufnell Park, North London, a pair of railway tracks diver under a school, taking train to and from Kings Cross. Wet, filthy, dangerous. Lovely place. And one Sunday before Christmas a sweet (sort of) kid called Abigail took me and my long suffering colleague Lesley May down there to look for a ghost. We found one.

Title: Tales of the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare

I literally LOVE the Shadowhunter world with all of my heart, so when I saw this had been released I just had to get it! I’m so excited to go further into Simon’s journey as a Shadowhunter!

Synopsis: Join Simon on his journey to become a Shadowhunter, and learn about the Academy’s illustrious history along the way, through guest lecturers such as Jace Herondale, Tessa Gray, and Magnus Bane. These ten short stories give an epilogue to the Mortal Instruments series and provide glimpses of what’s in store in the Dark Artifices.

Title:
 Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

I’m still yet to read Six of Crows! But this was on Buy One Get One Half Price so I thought since I’ve heard amazing things about SOC I’d get this ready for my binge!

Synopsis: Kaz Brekker and his crew have just pulled off a heist so daring even they didn’t think they’d survive. But instead of divvying up a fat reward, they’re right back to fighting for their lives. Double-crossed and left crippled by the kidnapping of a valuable team member, the crew is low on resources, allies, and hope. As powerful forces from around the world descend on Ketterdam to root out the secrets of the dangerous drug known as jurda parem, old rivals and new enemies emerge to challenge Kaz’s cunning and test the team’s fragile loyalties. A war will be waged on the city’s dark and twisting streets―a battle for revenge and redemption that will decide the fate of magic in the Grisha world.

Title:
 Horns by Joe Hill

Another addition to my Joe Hill collection! I know people liked the film for this and I’m excited to read the book! Also I’m loving Joe Hill recently so that’s a bonus!

Synopsis: Ignatius Perrish spent the night drunk and doing terrible things. He woke up the next morning with one hell of a hangover, a raging headache … and a pair of horns growing from his temples. Once, Ig lived the life of the blessed: born into privilege, the second son of a renowned American musician, and the younger brother of a rising late-night TV star, Ig had security and wealth and a place in his community. Ig had it all, and more – he had the love of Merrin Williams, a love founded on shared daydreams, mutual daring, and unlikely midsummer magic. Then beautiful, vivacious Merrin was gone – raped and murdered, under inexplicable circumstances – with Ig the only suspect. He was never tried for the crime, but in the court of public opinion, Ig was and always would be guilty. Now Ig is possessed with a terrible new power – with just a touch he can see people’s darkest desires – to go with his terrible new look, and he means to use it to find the man who killed Merrin and destroyed his life. Being good and praying for the best got him nowhere. It’s time for a little revenge; it’s time the devil had his due.

Title: The Rose Society by Marie Lu

I LOVED THE YOUNG ELITES SO MUCH. Okay so I basically inhaled The Young Elites and I could not wait for the next book so I had to buy it! I just love this series, and what a beautiful cover!

Synopsis: Adelina Amouteru’s heart has suffered at the hands of both family and friends, turning her down the bitter path of revenge. Now known and feared as the White Wolf, she flees Kenettra with her sister to find other Young Elites in the hopes of building her own army of allies. Her goal: to strike down the Inquisition Axis, the white-cloaked soldiers who nearly killed her.

That’s it for November! I bought some AMAZING books and I can’t wait to read them all!

What did you buy in November? What do you think of the books I bought?

Love,

May Book Haul!

Hi everyone!

So this month I tried not to buy books because well I already have a load to get through and thought I better get through those first! Compared to most months I did actually do quite well book-buying wise, even if I still bought a few haha! I got a few from a charity shop, a few on the Amazon 3 paperbacks for £10 and a few from Waterstones! I’m also sorry that this post is going to be slightly long!

13334303_10204737401634362_410539623_oTitle:  Dear World, How Are You? by Toby Little

I loved the idea of this and I thought it was such a cute book! It was also signed by Toby himself at Waterstones so I couldn’t not! It’s nice to see such young people wanting to investigate the world and as a fellow Sheffielder, it was a must buy!

Synopsis: With the help of his mum, Toby started handwriting and posting letters to everyone from research scientists in Antarctica to game-keepers in Chad and even the Pope. Not only did Toby achieve his goal but the world wrote back.

Dear World, How Are You? is a collection of the most fascinating and heart-warming letters he sent and received. It shows that the world is only as big as your imagination and is full of potential friends, waiting to be discovered, no matter where you live.

13313406_10204737401354355_104396146_oTitle:  Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Page

I’ve heard a lot of good things about this book and it’s been on my need-to-buy list for a while! It wasn’t until I read the opening line that I was completely sold to buy it. Also I think the synopsis for this book is one of the most intriguing things I’ve ever read! Here it is:

Synopsis: I didn’t ask for any of this. I didn’t ask to be some kind of hero. But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can’t be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There’s still a road of yellow brick—but even that’s crumbling.

What happened? Dorothy. They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm—and I’m the other girl from Kansas. I’ve been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked. I’ve been trained to fight. And I have a mission: Remove the Tin Woodman’s heart. Steal the Scarecrow’s brain. Take the Lion’s courage. And—Dorothy must die.

Title:  Book of Lies by Teri Terry

My other half pointed this book out to give it a look and it does sound very interesting! I love finding books that aren’t highly talked about, normally that’s how you find the best books so I’m excited to read it!

Synopsis: Tell a lie and the darkness will find you.
Quinn and Piper are twins, but they’ve never met. A tragic event brings
them together, and draws them into a family curse that stretches across centuries.
One twin can command the darkness; the other could hold the key to breaking the curse.
But when lies become truth and truth looks like lies, who can you believe?
