The 90’s Book Tag!

Hi everyone!

I’M BACK! Okay okay I know I keep saying that, and this time I’m not promising anything because I am very on and off with blogging these days. I’m not sure what’s going on with me at the moment, so I’m sorry if my posts are infrequent but I’ll be trying my best to keep up!

I saw this tag over on Lorryn’s blog AGES ago and I thought I would do it because it sounds amazing. I was only born in 97 so it’s not like I have any memories of the 90s, but that doesn’t mean I still don’t love everything about the 90s!

Let’s Go!divider-2461548_1280Rules:

  1. Please, please, please steal this tag and spread it around!  I only ask that you link it back to The Literary Phoenix so that I can see everyone’s answers!
  2. Freeze tag was all the rage in the 90s.  Tag someone (or many) you think would have fun with this!
  3. Have fun!

Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor // Review

Title: Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor

Rating: ★★★★★

Release: 6th November 2012

Synopsis: Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a new way of living – one without massacres and torn throats and bonfires of the fallen, without revenants or bastard armies or children ripped from their mothers’ arms to take their turn in the killing and dying.

Once, the lovers lay entwined in the moon’s secret temple and dreamed of a world that was like a jewel-box without a jewel – a paradise waiting for them to find it and fill it with their happiness. This was not that world.

Review:

A thrilling sequel to a completely original and stand out trilogy!

I dived straight into this after finishing the first book, Daughter of Smoke and Bone and I definitely think takes the cake for being my favourite of the three books, because it was OUTSTANDING!

Once again Laini Taylor completely blew me away with her writing style. Her descriptions are so vivid it transports you straight into the book, and feels as if her writing is just projected right off the page. Not only did her writing style excel within this book, but her character development was brilliant.

I loved how we could see the wear and tear on Karou after the events of the previous book. It added so much realism to the story, which I always feel is important for novels, especially Young Adult Fantasy.

The relationship with Akiva was also portrayed with such tension, and emotion, I was thriving for their scenes together! There are a few parts I can’t mention that I loved without spoiling, but let me tell you Laini is so deceptive with the story I couldn’t read the book quick enough.

The plot is so well thought out and clear that you can tell Laini knew exactly where she was going with the story and I loved the change of direction from the first book.

Emotional, thrilling and just outright brilliant, this is the sequel that the world needed. If you think Daughter of Smoke and Bone was good – just you wait!

Review:

I know I’m late to the party but I am so in love with this book! An exciting and thrilling book filled with excitement, horror and beautiful writing to leave you begging for more.

Right from the first line, this book had me hooked. It was one of the most powerful, and poignant lines, and something that has now forever been seared onto my mind. It set up the tone of the book so well, and from then on I continually fell more and more in love with it.

Tahereh has such a beautiful way of describing scenes, and her writing itself is so poetic that you can’t help but completely immerse yourself in the world she creates. She describes everything in such detail you can really imagine that you’re there, and put yourself in the characters shoes, and it’s amazing.

Her use of strikethroughs is also absolutely outstanding. Never before in any book have I read such brilliant use of strikethrough, but Tahereh not only does it perfectly, but it is so effective to the overall story. It’s so unique but works absolutely brilliantly.

The characters are both well developed and also so interesting, they all work so well together and I love them all so much. I could feel what they were feeling, and Kenji is my absolute favourite! The ending left me in awe of the book, and as soon as I finished it I ordered the rest!

If you’re looking for a book that will leave you with a complete love for an authors writing style, and a book that may potentially ruin your emotions – look no further!

Also the cover is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!
