Blogtober Day 10: BLOG TOUR – Amber’s Favourite Places to Write!

Hi everyone!

It’s Blogtober Day 10 and I have another SUPER exciting post for you! If you remember, last week I was part of the blog tour for Double Double Toil by Amber Elby (FIND THAT HERE: ). Well today I’m back again on the blog tour with another guest post!

Today Amber is here to talk about her favourite places to write, which I think it such a wonderful thing to share! Let’s get into it! Oh and also if you get to the end of the post there may be a little surprise!divider-2461548_1280Amber’s Favourite Places to Write

I’d like to say that I sit in a fancy café when I write, a steaming cappuccino in one hand and a feathered quill in the other.  But that simply isn’t true.  The reality may be somewhat disappointing, but hopefully it assures people that there is no one right location in which to write.

WTFSOD BLOG TOUR: Q&A with Danielle Koste and a Giveaway!

Hi everyone!

So today I’m back with something super special that I’m extremely excited about! Today is my first stop on the blog tour for What the Flower Says of Death by Danielle Koste, and I have such an interesting interview with her – I loved doing it!

If you recognise Danielle’s name, it’s because she’s been featured before on my blog for her debut novel PULSE, and you can check those posts out below:

I absolutely adore her newest book, and I can’t wait to share my interview with you so here we go! Also if you get to the bottom of the post, there’s an amazing giveaway that you don’t want to miss out on!divider-2461548_1280

What inspired WTFSOD?

It’s hard to say exactly what inspired What The Flower Says Of Death. I think it was a number of things just joined together for a perfect storm. I had just finished PULSE, my first full novel to complete and I was a little overwhelmed with the freedom. I could do anything, and it had been a long while since I was in that position (for a very long time the goal was so focused on PULSE that finally be able to work on something else was strange and exciting). Mostly I just tried something new (I wrote the opening after having some thoughts swirling in my head) and something special about the character narrating had already stuck out to me even after just a few lines. When it comes down to it was really just that opening scene that inspired the rest of the novel.

Review:

A heartwarming and joy filled book, that is perfect to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Although this is a continuation from Elaine’s first novel, The Woolworth Girls, it was not necessary to read them in order and I loved that. It allowed me to get invested in the book straight away!

The characters are so easy to love and the friendship between the two main characters is something that I know a lot of people can relate to. It was so nice to see them going through this rather stressful time together, and I really felt I could put myself in their shoes.

From start to finish I just loved reading this book, and the writing style was a perfect fit to the overall story. It was a great balance of family, friendship and although sometimes a bit slow paced, it was the perfect book to read on a cold winters day – especially tucked up in bed with a hot drink!

Review:

This book was one of the best murder mystery books I’ve read in a very long time!

Ant & Bea are a duo that could give even the worst detectives a run for their money, but they do it in the best way! I loved everything about this book. The friendship between Ant, Bea and Dot was one of the best things. I loved how I felt so involved in their relationship, it was like reading about friends of mine.

The story overall was so clever and brilliantly written, not only was I constantly on edge wondering who was committing the crimes, but I absolutely loved the setting of Costsave, and how we got to see the daily life of them there. It felt so easy to immerse yourself in the story, and was so unique for a murder mystery.

I’ve never read about a crime in such a common situation that could easily happen, so it also added a bit of suspense that I never expected! The story was told in such a fun way in parts, it helped to lift the dark underlying story, and I loved it.

Everything about this book was written so well and the ending kept me on the edge of my seat, so much I couldn’t put it down!

A fun, deadly, and friendly murder mystery told in one of the most unique and exciting ways, this book is definitely the start of a series that is definitely going to be one to watch out for.

One Quiet Woman by Anna Jacobs // Blog Tour Review

Title: One Quiet Woman by Anna Jacobs

Rating: ★★★★★

Release: 7th September 2017

Synopsis: 1930, Lancashire:
Leah Turner’s father has been killed in an accident at the laundry, and since her mother died years ago it falls to her to become sole provider for her little sister. But women’s wages are half those of men and pawning the few belongings she has left will only keep their vicious rent collector at bay for a few weeks, so even if she finds a job, they’ll lose their home.

Out of the blue Charlie Willcox, the local pawnbroker, offers her a deal. His brother Jonah, an invalid since being gassed in the Great War, needs a wife. Charlie thinks Leah would be perfect for the job.
The idea of a marriage of convenience doesn’t please Leah, but she finds Jonah agreeable enough and moving with him to the pretty hamlet of Ellindale may be the only chance of a better life for her sister.

But other people have plans for the remote Pennine valley, and the two sisters find themselves facing danger in their new life with Jonah. Can the three of them ever look to a brighter future?

Review:

This book was one of the most lovely and heart warming books I have ever read! I didn’t know whether it would really be my kind of book when I first read the synopsis, but from the end of the first chapter I was completely in love.

I adored the story so much, Leah’s rise from rags to riches was so heart warming and I loved seeing how even in the hardest times she still continued as if everything was normal. Leah is one of the most inspirational characters I’ve ever read about. I loved her development, and how throughout everything that happens she still stays so humble and down to earth.

Her relationship with Jonah completely melted my heart. It was the perfect amount for the book, and was so refreshing that the romance didn’t overpower the book completely. The sense of family and having a close knit community was something that really stood out to me, and I liked how that was included and intertwined in the story so well.

The overall writing style of the book was perfect, and included such a range of narratives that there was something for everyone! The addition of the drama and mystery surrounding the Huttons was such a wonderful part, and really added another element to the story to keep you immersed. The pacing was brilliant, and really felt as if you were going along with the story with Leah herself.

There wasn’t one thing I didn’t love about this book, and if I could give it more than 5 stars I would! If you’re looking for a wonderfully written historical fiction book that will leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling, and also a desperate need to read the next book, then look no further!
