Title: Renegades by Marissa Meyer

Rating: ★★★★★

Release: 5th April 2018

Synopsis: The Renegades are a syndicate of prodigies―humans with extraordinary abilities―who emerged from the ruins of a crumbled society and established peace and order where chaos reigned. As champions of justice, they remain a symbol of hope and courage to everyone . . . except the villains they once overthrew. Nova has a reason to hate the Renegades, and she is on a mission for vengeance. As she gets closer to her target, she meets Adrian, a Renegade boy who believes in justice―and in Nova. But Nova’s allegiance is to a villain who has the power to end them both.divider-2461548_1280Review:

Doesn’t everyone want to be a superhero? Saving lives and having people shouting your name? Well sometimes the heroes are the bad guys…sometimes it pays to be an Anarchist…

This is the superhero book we’ve all been waiting for.

I thought that I couldn’t possibly love a book as much as The Lunar Chronicles. I thought it was obvious that Marissa Meyer could never beat the perfection of that series, and make me obsess over anything as much as that. I was COMPLETELY wrong.

This book left me speechless. I am completely and unbelievably blown away by everything that happens and I flew through this (ha get it? It’s about superheroes and I flew? Sorry I’ll leave…). I literally wrote two entire pages of notes about everything I loved in this story, and I still don’t think I got everything down!

I loved the contrast of the Anarchists and the Renegades. The divide is so interesting and the reasoning behind why people joined either group is both fascinating and brilliantly written. I loved the opening of the book, and how it revealed the motives behind everything Nova does, I fell in love with her from the very first page.

One thing I always love about superhero novels is origin stories, and boy do we get some! They are so in depth and Marissa does such a great job at creating such unique characters that become so important not only to the story, but to you as you read the book. I don’t know how she does it, but this book is so well thought out, you can see the effort she puts into her novels.

Adrian is one of the best characters I’ve read about – his loyalty to the Renegades but also his need for justice is amazing and if you read this book and don’t fall in love with him, please tell me how because I am so in love it’s unreal!

Nova is a truly inspiring character – she has been through so much and sacrifices everything for those she loves. Marissa has a habit of creating some amazing female leads, and Nova is definitely up there in the hall of fame! Her relationships with both the Renegades, the Anarchists and Max had me completely captivated. I couldn’t read the book fast enough, and couldn’t wait to pick it up every time I had to put it down.

The ending left me absolutely shrieking for the next book. I had no idea what route the story would take but I couldn’t be happier with the route it has taken! Is it November yet? No? WELL CAN IT HURRY UP PLEASE.

If you love superheroes, then definitely check out this book. If you don’t love superheroes, read this book and you’ll probably fall in love as much as I did. This is how you write a superhero book, and how you reinvent a genre of book!
