Title: The Caged Queen by Kristen Ciccareli

Rating: ★★★★★

Release: 27th September 2018

Synopsis: Roa and her sister Essie were born with a bond so strong that it forged them together forever. It was a magic they cherished – until the terrible day Essie died and her soul was trapped in this world. Dax, the heir to the throne of Firgaard, was responsible. Roa swore she would never forgive him – yet when he came begging for her help to dethrone his cruel father, Roa made him a deal. She’d give him the army he needed if he made her queen. Now she is royalty, but an outlander; far from home and married to her enemy. And even after everything she has sacrificed, Dax’s promises go unfulfilled. Roa’s people still suffer. Then a chance to right every wrong arises – an opportunity for Roa to rid herself of this enemy king and rescue her beloved sister. During the Relinquishing, when the spirits of the dead are said to return, Roa can reclaim her sister for good. All she has to do is kill the king. . .divider-2461548_1280Review:

A brilliant addition to the Iskari series focusing on the lengths you will go for love, even if sometimes it could cost you your happiness.

This book completely excelled my expectations. I thought it would be good, after reading The Last Namsara I’d already realised I adored Kristen’s writing style, but this was definitely even better than I thought.

The Caged Queen focuses on different characters than in The Last Namsara, the book focuses on Roa and Dax’s relationship so I was worried after falling in love with Asha and Torwin, whether I’d enjoy it as much. I 100% DEFINITELY did!

The characters were so interesting and so well developed, and I loved how we got to see characters from TLN as well and learn more about them. Roa was such a brilliant fierce woman, and I really liked how rocky her relationship with Dax was – it felt so realistic and I honestly was so invested!

The story progression from the first book was particularly well done too. You don’t need to read the first book to know what happens in this one, but I appreciated the little nods to Asha and Kozu for those who have read it. I couldn’t put it down because I was desperate to know what happened next.

Once again the lore behind the story was outstanding. This series is just one of the most fascinating stories I’ve read, and has such depth it is wonderful. I can’t express how much I loved hearing about Essie and their childhood.

The ending completely warmed my heart. It was one of the cutest endings and one of the best endings to leave me with a huge smile on my face. I was so scared it would be a cliffhanger! However I am hoping there will be more books SOON for this series, because I need to return to the world and find out more!
