I’m back with another TBR post – I know I’m just as surprised as you! I really enjoyed my last TBR post where I got Ben to pick the TBR for the month – more on that here: Fiance Chooses my TBR! – so thought I would do it again but with my parents instead!
I really love getting others included in my reading and blogging, it’s just fun and makes me happy to combine two of my favourite things with some of my favourite people!
So I asked both my parents to choose some books for me and used the same categories that I thought of before for my last post, as they seemed to work well! As a reminder these are the categories I gave them to choose books in:
- A classic book
- An ARC chosen because of it’s title
- An ARC chosen because of it’s cover
- A book chosen off the top of his head he knew was on my TBR
- A Stephen King book
- A book from my downstairs bookshelf
- A book from the bookshelf outside my room
- A book from the bookshelf inside my room
I have been a bit ambitious and asked them to choose a book each – meaning I have 16 books on my TBR for this month – but I am now not studying at uni anymore so I have more time to read! I’m also doing a read-a-thon this month so that should help me get through them (more on that later!).
Here is my TBR for June as chosen by my parents!
A Classic Book
Mum’s Choice – My mum chose The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling as it’s one she picked up for me for Christmas and she remembered I needed to read it!
Dad’s Choice – My dad chose The Queen and I by Sue Townsend as we were talking about it ages ago, and he said it was one of his favourite books, so then when this category came up it fit perfectly!
My thoughts – I’m really happy with both of these choices! I don’t know much about The Queen and I but for my dad to like the book it must be good as he doesn’t read too much, and I’m excited for us to be able to talk about it. Also I’ve wanted to read The Jungle Book for SO long so I’m happy I’m finally getting to it!
An ARC chosen because of it’s title
Mum’s Choice – Mum chose The Wicked Cometh by Laura Carlin because she thought it sounded interesting and “witchy” – which is very much mum’s type of books too!
Dad’s Choice – My dad chose One Kind Man and he didn’t really say why but it was the one that stood out to him the most!
My thoughts – I am THRILLED that dad chose One Kind Man because I adored the first book in the series, One Quiet Woman, and have been dying to read the sequel! Also I don’t know much about The Wicked Cometh but I’ve heard good things!
An ARC chosen because of it’s cover
Mum’s Choice – She chose Spare and Found Parts by Sarah Maria Griffin because she really loved the shiny gold cover!
Dad’s Choice – He chose The Wolf by Leo Carew because he loved the dark cover with the blood splattering, it really caught his eye which I thought it would!
My thoughts – I have had both of these on my TBR for so long, I’m happy to finally be getting to them! I’m not sure how I’m going to feel about The Wolf but I’m super excited to read Spare and Found Parts!
A book off the top of his head
Mum’s Choice – Mum chose The Colorado Kid by Stephen King because she knew I’d had the BIGGEST issue finding this book, so remembered that it was on my shelf!
Dad’s Choice – Dad chose Truthwitch by Susan Dennard. He’d seen this book on my shelf recently and knew it was there (he may have also looked like mum did!).
My thoughts – I’m so excited for both of these! I love Stephen King books and I love Haven (what was loosely based on The Colorado Kid), and also heard amazing things about Truthwitch so I can’t wait!
A Stephen King book
Mum’s Choice – She chose Salem’s Lot because she knew it was a good classic King book, and also one of the very many I hadn’t read yet!
Dad’s Choice – My dad chose The Gunslinger because The Dark Tower series is his favourite series of all time. He has been trying to get me to read this series for SO long so was thrilled when this category was there so he could mention it again!
My thoughts – It’s Stephen King books – I AM EXCITED!
A book from the shelf downstairs
Mum’s Choice – Her choice was Book of Lies by Teri Terry because the spine really captivated her and intrigued her! She also really liked the book title so took that book out for my TBR.
Dad’s Choice – His choice was Watership Down by Richard Adams because and I quote “it’s gonna make you cry”.
My thoughts – I am fully unprepared for reading Watership Down but excited to get to it! Also Book of Lies has been on my TBR for a while so thank god it’s finally going to be read!
A book from my shelf outside my room
Mum’s Choice – Mum chose A Conjuring of Light by V. E. Schwab because she actually chose A Darker Shade of Magic as the title interested her, but as I’ve already read the first two books we compromised at reading the final book in the series!
Dad’s Choice – Dad chose How to Stop Time by Matt Haig – he liked the blue cover and the title of the book and noticed I had a few books by him so knew I liked Matt Haig!
My thoughts – These two are probably the ones I’m most excited to read this month as they are both two of the ones right at the top of my TBR! I am not even slightly ready to finish the Shades of Magic series, and I love Matt Haig and can’t wait to read this!
A book from my shelf inside my room
Mum’s Choice – Mum’s final choice was Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo – my parents got me this series for my birthday so she knew they were on my shelf and knew I wanted to read them badly!
Dad’s Choice – My dad’s final choice was The Hit by Allen Zadoff because he really liked the title of the book and the red cover caught his eye!
My thoughts – Shadow and Bone was one of the best starts to a series I’ve read so I can’t wait to read the next book, and my parents got me The Hit for my birthday and it really intrigued me so I can’t wait! There we go! This was honestly so much fun, and doing these kinds of TBR’s make me more likely to stick to the TBR and makes it fun for everyone – I love it!
