Title: Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody

Rating: ★★★★★

Release: 17th May 2018

Synopsis: Enne Salta was raised as a proper young lady, and no lady would willingly visit New Reynes, the so-called City of Sin. But when her mother goes missing, Enne must leave her finishing school―and her reputation―behind to follow her mother’s trail to the city where no one survives unchanged.

Frightened and alone, her only lead is a name: Levi Glaisyer. Unfortunately, Levi is not the gentleman she expected―he’s a street lord and con man. Levi is also only one payment away from cleaning up a rapidly unraveling investment scam, so he doesn’t have time to investigate a woman leading a dangerous double life. Enne’s offer of compensation, however, could be the solution to all his problems.

Their search for clues leads them through glamorous casinos, cabarets and into the clutches of a ruthless society. As Enne unearths an impossible secret about her family, Levi’s enemies catch up to them, ensnaring him in a vicious execution game where the players always lose. To save him, Enne will need to surrender herself to the city… And she’ll need to play the game.divider-2461548_1280Review:

Welcome to the City of Sin – play the game and survive. Or pray you get out alive.

I absolutely loved Amanda’s first book, Daughter of the Burning City, so I was super excited to get an e-ARC of this book, and it was even better than I expected.

The world of New Reynes is probably one of my absolute favourite fictional worlds I’ve ever read. It has amazing characters, and so many interesting areas to completely pull you in. I loved how everything was described with such amazing detail, I could paint the picture of it perfectly in my mind.

I could see each “type of character”, and also the different groups within the city? SIGN ME UP. I loved how they were each focused on different morals within the city, and how very mob orientated it felt.

The level of history and depth to the story really blew me away. Amanda clearly planned this book with so much precision and put so much time into it, it felt as if the history of New Reynes could be in a book you would find at your local library. It became real.

Enne is brilliant. Amanda is a queen when it comes to writing strong, badass female characters and Enne is no different. Her determination, and her strength to get through so many hardships within the book was amazing. She really is an inspiring character and her relationship with Levi, and Levi himself is something that topped off the story’s brilliance.

If you thought the book couldn’t get any better, then the Shadow Game starts and well. It is TOUGH. I loved the new aspect to the book, and how it increased the stakes and made the pacing so brilliant. I couldn’t put it down until I finished the last page and even know I am BEGGING for the next book!

This is the first book in a series that I know will be a bestselling series. The writing style is outstanding, and the world building perfect. If you want to join the City of Sin, this book is out in the UK TOMORROW!

But remember once you get in…you rarely get to leave…

You can pre-order Ace of Shades on Amazon UK here! It is out tomorrow!

*NOTE: I was sent this book in return for an honest review and that is what I have written. All opinions are my own and are completely truthful.*
