Title: The List of Real Things by Sarah Moore Fitzgerald

Rating: ★★★

Release: 29th March 2018

Synopsis: Grace knows the difference between what’s real and the strange ideas that float around in her little sister’s mind. Their parents died – that’s real. A secret hotel on the cliff-top where their parents are waiting – definitely NOT real. So when grief strikes again, Grace is determined not to let her sister’s outlandish imagination spiral out of control. But the line between truth and fantasy is more complicated than it seems…

A magical story about love, loss and belief. An amazing debut novel from a brilliant and upcoming author.

I didn’t really know what to expect as I started this as I hadn’t read much about it beforehand, but that is probably the best way to go into the book. It was so interesting and unique that I am so glad I went in blindly.

The characters were so developed and I loved the depth that they had. The book dealt with such important subjects such as coping with loss at such a young age, and the ways that this can affect your mental state, as shown by Bee’s character.

Bee was written brilliantly, and her progression into what seemed like her coping mechanism for losing people was so well written and thought out. I loved how her character was represented and her faith into the unknown.

I really loved the magical element to the novel, it worked so well and balanced the book out brilliantly. Although I do wish that there was more to the book – I’m not sure what was missing but I felt something was missing. I also felt it was a little slow at times, especially at the start, which was sad.

However saying that this is definitely a well written book focusing on some tough subjects and doing them justice. A beautiful debut with a stunning cover.
