I’m back with a new post today and one that I’ve been SO excited to write for so long! For a while I’ve wanted to go to more blogger events, but never thought I’d get the opportunity to. That is until I was invited to the New Voices Event 2018 in Manchester by Headline Publishing! It was one of the biggest honours I’ve ever had, and I still can’t believe I got to go!
It was one of the best nights I’ve ever had, and was filled with laughter, friends and many many books and authors! I definitely thought I needed to share the night with you, and the wonderful books I received!
The event took place at Lock 91, a cocktail bar in Manchester, and it’s safe to say that I was filled with not only excitement but also a lot of nerves! Luckily enough I knew that Sarah from Book Hooked Nook was going to the event, so after making sure we would never leave each other all night, I felt much more comfortable! I also got to meet the lovely Lauren from Northern Plunder, and I can’t explain how much fun I had with these two lovely ladies! They made me feel so comfortable, and it was lovely to share such an amazing experience with them!
The evening was a celebration of five new and upcoming authors, to not only have a first look at their books, but also to get the opportunity to chat with them about their books – it was an amazing opportunity. We got to talk to all of the authors apart from one, which was a shame, but the authors we did get to talk to were absolutely lovely. Not only did they have such strong passion for their own novels, but it was nice to hear how much they appreciated us bloggers, and how they loved each others novels too! It was really nice to spend some time with people who were just like us – who loved books as much as we did!
After Sarah finally started the motion of picking up the ARC’s on the table (all of the bloggers there were all just waiting for someone to make the first move – thanks Sarah for taking one for the team!), we all got to pick them up and take home to have a look at! They all looked so amazing, and after talking to the authors I’m even more excited about them!
Let’s have a closer look into what New Voices will be available soon!
Release: 25th January 2018
Synopsis: Tom and Kate’s daughter turns six tomorrow, and they have to tell her about sleep. If you sleep unwatched, you could be Taken. If you are Taken, then watching won’t save you. Nothing saves you. Your knowledge. Your memories. Your dreams. If all you are is on the Feed, what will you become when the Feed goes down? For Tom and Kate, in the six years since the world collapsed, every day has been a fight for survival. And when their daughter, Bea, goes missing, they will question whether they can even trust each other anymore. The threat is closer than they realise…
Blogger Note: Nick was one of the nicest people I talked to at the event, and I really loved how friendly he was to us all! He explained this book so well, it left me wanting to read it as soon as I left the event! Nick was so lovely, and talked to us for ages which was lovely to share a nice night with him!
Release: 14th June 2018
Synopsis: 1990: In the darkest woods, three girls devote themselves to a sinister figure. 2000: A young mother disappears, leaving behind her husband and baby daughter. 2018: A teenage girl is charged with murder, and her trial will shock the world.
Three chilling events, connected by the shadow he casts. He is the Tall Man. He can make you special…
Blogger Note: This was the book that first took my eye as soon as I entered the room. Not only does it have such a brilliant cover, but as soon as I read the title I automatically thought of The Slender Man legend which has always creeped me out! Phoebe was so kind, and I loved hearing about her book from her perspective, thank you for talking to us and giving us what sounds like an amazing new thriller – I love thrillers!
Release: 5th April 2018
Synopsis: Violence and death have come to the land under the Northern Sky. The Anakim dwell in the desolate forests and mountains beyond the black river, the land under the Northern Sky. Their ancient ways are forged in Unthank silver and carved in the grey stone of their heartland, their lives measured out in the turning of centuries, not years. By contrast, the Sutherners live in the moment, their vitality much more immediate and ephemeral than their Anakim neighbours.
Fragile is the peace that has existed between these very different races – and that peace is shattered when the Suthern armies flood the lands to the north. These two races revive their age-old hatred and fear of each other. Within the maelstrom of war, two leaders will rise to lead their people to victory. Only one will succeed.
Blogger Note: This is one of the first covers that caught my eye – it looks very Game of Thrones like! Leo was lovely, and seemed to have a true passion for his book which made it all the better! I’ve heard this book is being called something to read if you do love GoT so this definitely intrigues me!
Release: 8th March 2018
Synopsis: Juliette loves Nate. She will follow him anywhere. She’s even become a flight attendant for his airline, so she can keep a closer eye on him. They are meant to be. The fact that Nate broke up with her six months ago means nothing. Because Juliette has a plan to win him back. She is the perfect girlfriend.
And she’ll make sure no one stops her from getting exactly what she wants. True love hurts, but Juliette knows it’s worth all the pain…
Blogger Note: This book not only caught my eye, but after talking to Karen, she made it sound even more exciting! I love when the main character has twisted morals, and also hearing how Karen intertwined her expertise as a flight attendant into the story is brilliant. I can’t wait to read it, and thank you to Karen for being so lovely to me!
Release: 3rd May 2018
Synopsis: For Selvon, Ardan and Yusuf, growing up under the towers of Stones Estate, summer means what it does anywhere: football, music, freedom. But now, after the killing of a British soldier, riots are spreading across the city, and nowhere is safe. While the fury swirls around them, Selvon and Ardan remain focused on their own obsessions, girls and grime. Their friend Yusuf is caught up in a different tide, a wave of radicalism surging through his local mosque, threatening to carry his troubled brother, Irfan, with it.
Blogger Note: I really love political and “real” books at the moment, and this sounds like something that is definitely going to be something that will stay with me. I never got to talk to Guy at the event, but this book definitely sounds interesting!
The links to all the books are linked in the covers so just click the covers to be sent to their Amazon page! I’m still in awe that I got to go to such a wonderful event, and I can’t even begin to explain how much fun I had connecting with the authors, other bloggers, and my lovely friends! Thank you to my mum for going with me too so I was safe on the way back!
A huge thank you to Headline Publishing, and to the lovely Georgina Moore for looking after me, Lauren and Sarah all night! You were so lovely, and hopefully I’ll see you again at some point!
