Title: Swan Song by Charlotte Wilson

Rating: ★★★★★

Release: 9th September 2017

Synopsis: When iconic ballerina Beatrice Duvall died, a nation mourned – and a legacy was born. Sixteen years later, her daughter Ava comes to London to take part in a high-profile tribute to Beatrice, and to learn about the mother she never knew. There’s just one snag: the tribute is a ballet, Swan Lake. Which is infinitely painful for Ava, because she can’t dance. Won’t dance. Not since she quit the Royal Ballet School last year and walked away from everything that defined her.

But this is London, colourful and crazy, and with actor Seb at her side, there’s so much to discover. Like Theatreland razzmatazz and rooftop picnics and flamingo parties. And a whole load of truths Ava never knew about her mother – and herself. When the time comes to take the stage, will Ava step out of the shadow cast by her mother’s pedestal? And who will be waiting for her there, in the bright lights?divider-2461548_1280Review:

An emotionally charged novel with a beautiful story, and wonderful writing to leave you in tears.

This story went so much deeper than I expected it to, and I loved everything that the narrative represented. The message of losing someone who you never really know was written perfectly, and is a subject that is rarely talked about within books.

The characters all worked so well together, and I particularly liked the how we could follow the story as Ava did so easily. I loved seeing everything from her perspective.

The message that bonds can form between people in such a short period of time, such as Ava with her mother, was written beautifully and I really liked seeing her go on the journey of discovering where she came from, and seeing her develop and grow with love for her mother.

The focus was completely on grief, loss and recovery compared to romance, and it was brilliant. Realistic, emotional and definitely one to look out for.
