Synopsis: Centuries from now, during a new ice age, only three human colonies are known to exist. Scorr Tanta, the first city, is vast and resourceful, whereas Eklips is more desolate. Ellie, on the other hand, works in Port Harmony; a harbour town. As an apprentice orgo-keeper, the only highlight is getting to ride the animals that she cares for. Then, a chance skirmish at the market draws her closer to Haylee and her friends, and everything begins to change. Desperate to join them, Ellie has heard many tales about Haylee and her group of renowned warriors. What she doesn’t know, is how much danger follows them. Ellie is soon tugged into a much different world than she had first assumed. A world built on dissent, and filled with secrets.Review:
A thrilling and immersive book that will transport you to a future reminiscent of the Jurassic era, but with more lies, deceit and even murder.
First off the cover of this book is absolutely stunning, not only does it tell such a great story of what the book is about, but it also is so unique. It really sets the tone for the wonderful words written inside.
From the first chapter I was curious as to what was going to happen, and I completely fell in love with Ellie straight away. Not only was she so wonderfully headstrong, and confident, but she was so clever and well written too. Her relationship with Sage was so beautiful, and really allowed me to put myself in her shoes.
The plot itself was so well planned out, and so well paced that I felt like I was on the journey with each character, and I didn’t want to put it down. I particularly loved how the suspense was written in, and how each chapter became more and more thrilling as the book went on, ready for the explosive ending that would want you begging for more.
The dynamic between all the characters was absolutely brilliant, and I loved how each character not only had their own personal stories, but their character arcs all intertwined with brilliant skill. The relationship of the characters with their orgos was also wonderfully done, and reminded me of my relationship with my pets which warmed my heart.
Overall this book has such a unique story, I don’t think I’ve ever read anything like it. It kept me enthralled, and brought tears to my eyes at times too. It was so clearly thought out, and I can’t wait to find out more about this world.
R. J. Furness’ books should definitely be on your 2018 TBR list!
