Monthly Wrap Ups

October Wrap Up!

Hi everyone!

IT’S FINALLY HAPPENED! It’s the end of October and I’m actually posting my wrap up – IT’S ON TIME! Can we all just appreciate this moment, because I am so proud of myself for finally being on time again!

I also read some very brilliant books this month, and a few more ARC’s! October is the month of Halloween so I tried to keep all my reads very spooky related, and I think I did well! I love spooky books so this is always my favourite reading month! Anyway let’s get to it:

ARC Reads:

Title: Strange Weather by Joe Hill

Rating: ★★★★.5

Review: This book is one of my highly anticipated releases of the year, so when I got approved on Edelweiss for a copy I was obviously ECSTATIC! I loved this book so much from start to finish, each short story got better and better! I love Joe Hill’s writing so much. My review will be up on the 31st of this month!

Title: Doubt the Stars by Maddyson Wilson

Rating: ★★★★.

Review: This was such a brilliant twist on the traditional story of Romeo and Juliet. Not only did one of my favourite people design the beautiful cover (Love you Lucy!), but the story within is also beautifully written. My full review is here!

T
itle: Adventures in Farland by Moshank Relia

Rating: ★★★.5

Review: This little MG book is so cute, and has such a heart warming story perfect for all little kids. If you’re looking for a fun, and magical story for your kids then this is definitely the one for you! My review is here!

Title: Environmentally Friendly by Elias Zanbaka

Rating: ★★★★

Review: One of the shortest stories I’ve ever read, but it packed such a punch. The writing was so powerful and emotional, i was beautiful. My full review will be live soon!

T
itle: Room 119 by Trev Lince

Rating: ★★★★★

Review: Trev asked me to review his debut novel, and honestly this book blew me away. It was so well written and had such a beautiful underlying message that it really left me thinking! My full review is here!

T
itle: PULSE by Danielle Koste

Rating: ★★★★★

Review: I recently finished this, so my review isn’t up yet but I loved it! It was so well paced, and brilliantly written. It took a well used mythical creature, and put it in such a brilliant new context, a very welcome breath of fresh air! Check out my review that will be up soon!

Other Books:

Title: Gerald’s Game by Stephen King

Rating: ★★★★

Review: I picked this up forever ago, and once I saw the new Netflix film adaptation, I knew I had to read it for the month of Halloween! I absolutely loved it, it creeped me out SO much, I had to put it down when reading at night because I was convinced someone was watching me!

Title: Hekla’s Children by James Brogden

Rating: ★★★

Review: I bought this on a whim (shock horror right?), and read it as soon as it arrived! It was really good, with a really well thought out story, however I did find it a little slow at times. I was kind of hoping for more of a “horror” aspect, but other than that the story was really well written.

Title: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Rating: ★★★★★

Review: My friend Mariam has been begging me to read this for so long, so I thought I’d finally give in! I’m so glad I did because this book was AMAZING. It was brilliantly written, and I loved the character of Mara so much. She was everything you could want in a main character, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

Title: Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll

Rating: DNF

Review: I hate DNF-ing books, but I just couldn’t carry on with this one. I really didn’t like the main character at all, and I wasn’t really a fan of how the story was going. I had to give up, and move on to something I liked more!

Title: Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough

Rating: ★★★★★

Review: THIS BOOK HAS RUINED ME AND I CAN’T EVEN COPE. If you read ANY book in your life, PLEASE read this one. It’s written so brilliantly, and has one of the best narratives I’ve ever read. It was absolutely brilliant and THAT ENDING. My full review will be up soon – expect MORE CAPITALS BECAUSE OMG.

Title: The Outliers by Kimberely McCreight

Rating: ★★★

Review: This cover is absolutely stunning! I couldn’t not get it because it’s stunning – and it didn’t let me down. The story was really interesting, and a perfect YA thriller for this month. Oh and did I mention the cover is BEAUTIFUL??

Title: A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay

Rating: ★★★★.5

Review: On all the lists about what to read this Halloween this was listed, so I finally picked it up off my shelf, and read it, and IT WAS SO GOOD! It had a perfect balance of horror, suspense, and emotion with such a brilliant ending. This book scared Stephen King, and I now know why! Definitely give it a read!

Title: The Little Book by Murder by Neil R. Storey

Rating: ★★★★★

Review: True crime interests me so much, so when I went to York and found this I had to get it. It was so brilliant, and lists a load of different crimes throughout the world, from unsolved murders to serial killers. It was good to read a little each day, and I really liked how it was set out too. If you like true crime, this is definitely a good little book to look through!divider-2461548_1280
