Review:

Action packed from start to finish, this was the sequel that we needed, and it definitely didn’t let us down.

I love how this picked up from the end of the first book, it was the perfect way to start a sequel and I love how we got to see how Poppy and Ember are adjusting into their new lives. The multiple POV’s once again works so well, and I love how it allows us an even better look into the after effects of the first book, and how the characters we love are coping.

The introduction of new characters such as Betony was also a brilliant part of this book, and I loved how Betony’s character contrasted that of Charlock’s, just as Poppy’s contrasted Ember’s in the first book. The similarities were so brilliant, and well thought out.

The flashback chapters are so well created that I loved how it allowed a further look into the past of the witches and Charlock, to help give a complete backstory as to how Poppy came to be, and just how evil Raven was throughout her life. It was so interesting to compare how Raven influenced Sorrel and see how different she is now, I loved it.

The character development within this book is especially brilliant, and I love how we not only get to know more about Leo’s past, but I really loved how we get to see Poppy truly express her power as a Queen, and how Ember adjusts to everything. It was so well written, and the development was better than I ever expected.

The underlying message of the book, that family always comes first is so important and is so subtly created that I couldn’t help but love it.  The ending made me feel every single emotion possible, and I didn’t know whether to be happy, sad or proud! I loved every single part of this book, and the last line will stay with me forever.

A series that just keeps giving, this book is definitely one to watch out for!
